Transforming the Trinity

Timing is everything.  The Trinity River is experiencing a newfound awareness, particularly in urban areas.  We figure there is no time like the present to embark on river worthy projects for riparian ecosystem recovery (restoring where possible, naturally occurring functions of the river and its habitat) such as stream cleanup events and promoting riparian buffers and prairie strips.

Once a balanced ecosystem, able to thrive under normal conditions and naturally recover from flooding, the Trinity River has suffered immeasurably from the impacts of human activities.  Essentially, everyone lives downstream, and we all know what starts upstream must travel downstream.  Upstream activities can dictate the health of the river and the health of the river determines the safe access and quality of recreational opportunities available for human use.

Historically, the organization's activities were centered in the Middle Trinity River basin, the more rural and agricultural portion of the watershed south of Dallas continuing to Lake Livingston. Today, our focus is clean water with efforts focused in the Upper Trinity River basin. We believe that a collaborative effort with numerous watershed organizations in the urbanized areas of North Texas can begin to make a positive impact on the health of the river and tributaries.
